Paolo
Incipit of the masterpiece "Crime and punishment", Dostoevskij On an exceptionally hot evening early in July a young man came out
of the garret in which he lodged in S. Place and walked slowly, as
though in hesitation, towards K. bridge.
He had successfully avoided meeting his landlady on the staircase.
His garret was under the roof of a high, five-storied house and was
more like a cupboard than a room. The landlady who provided him with
garret, dinners, and attendance, lived on the floor below, and every
time he went out he was obliged to pass her kitchen, the door of which
invariably stood open. And each time he passed, the young man had a
sick, frightened feeling, which made him scowl and feel ashamed. He
was hopelessly in debt to his landlady, and was afraid of meeting her.

I love this book it is one of my favorites  <img alt="" src="http://www.italki.com/fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/msn/thumbs_up.gif" />, I consider Dostoevschi is one of the best writters in the world .
What i find  so interesting about him is the fact that this book was written in 1866 and still today we talk about it , after 143 years we still read it with so much entusiasm and still find some many things in it even , though the world changed some much in the last 150 years . I am curios what writers from nowdays will last so many years ...........

Dostoevskij is considered to be a difficult writer: problems he discusses are often tragic, people in his books suffer and so on. Also his language is a little bit 'dry' as it is called in Russian.
So i was surprised to know how many people abroad admire him.
i thought that his very specific and it's not easy for foreigners to understand his books.
it's great that i was wrong

I like this book a lot. It was so interesting for me to read. But what I found strange about this story is that not many Russian people like and read this book though foreighn people see Dostoevskij as one of the best writers in the world
