That tutor has 2 types of services and I'm confused about how to choose. Yesterday I sent him a private message that I wanted to improve pronunciation, speaking, grammar and asking for unknown words. So which course should I take?
I am about taking a session with him and I don't want to cancel the session later if I'm choosing a wrong course. I decided to send him a message because he said - I am looking for new students learning English. Please feel free to contact me!
He was online since 3 hours ago and of course he didn't respond to me. I'm assuming that he is too busy?
I used to send a private message to another tutor who didn't respond to me too. Eventually I decided to take a session and sent along a private message. He did't reply to my 3 messages until I wanted to reschedule the session, I got his first message regarding reschedule. And then I was disappointed that he wasn't concentrate on my trial session.
Thanks.
If a tutor or teacher is interested in helping you, he or she will definitely respond to your message, even before you put your money on the table. If they're only interested in the money, they're certainly not going to become more helpful after they believe they've got it in their hands. It can be hard for students to interpret teacher profiles and understand who the good ones are, but I would say failure to respond to your messages is an automatic disqualifier.
Hi
I agree with Phil and Rachel, best to move on and it is not a good sign for the future. Also if people do not respond unless you are booking a lesson then it is also a sign that is not the right teacher. Even a brief message saying i'm busy I will get back to you is enough initially. There are many many English tutors here so I am sure you will find one that is wanting to work with you to improve your English and happy to prepare for your lessons and to reply to brief queries.
As a teacher on this site, I always try to answer messages from students as soon as I see them. If I don't have time to write a long answer I at least acknowlege that I recieved the message and that I will write back later. I hope that you are happy with your lessons here on italki.
You are impatient that a teacher did not respond to your message after only 3 hours?
These people may also have other jobs during the day and be on Skype for other reasons. I think that they have 24 hours to respond to your message.
A community tutor helps with conversation only in English. I professional teacher helps with other things like grammar and new words.
If you are unsure, you also have 3 trial sessions for free.
@Peg
It's after 27 hours from now. If he wasn't online, he would still receive an Italki email notification.
I will not take a trial session again from tutor because I think it's not enough time for me to "feel" him or her. I am going to take 60 mins session from him. I did buy ITC and just waiting for his response for choosing which type of session.
Thanks.
