Did you do a good deed for someone today?

Do you believe that when we help others we also help ourselves?

A British study found that doing good deeds for others can actually improve your health.

People who do good deeds experience less anger and stress, become mentally tougher and physically stronger, and cause us to feel more positive and self-confident.
The study also found that good deeds had a positive chain reaction effect, and the beneficiaries of the deeds (the receipints of a good deed) felt more motivated to help others.

When A helps B, B is motivated to do a good deed for C, and that is called 'paying it forward'.

So, did you do a good deed today? ... Don't be shy, tell us about it.

When I was helping others, at that time I never thought that, “Hey, I am helping you know.” It just something came out spontaneously when I see someone looked like need a help. So if you asked me that have I helped someone else today? I have to think first what I have done today.

Helping people would take us to concern about someone else for awhile. We have to spend our time and effort to find out what’s actually valuable to someone. And I guess this is the reason why helping people affect our health, which is to distract our thought to not just thinking about ourselves but someone else. Mostly people got stressed because of too much thinking, for example thinking about our problems.

@Richard : I’m so thankful for your kindness giving me chance as an English learners to improve my writing skill in English. Honestly first time I didn’t intend to give comment here. I’m not confident enough to write in English for this topics. It took me more than one hour to answer this. And then when I read that you wanted to motivate us in learning English (this also could be counted as a good deeds), so I thought why not I try to answer this. :D

Btw, would you like to give me the source where the British study that you mentioned in this topic. Thx.

Thank you for your informative comments.

You are in a position to do a lot of good for a lot of people.

Your knowlege and skills are life-changing for some people.

Your commitment to your profession and patients is exemplary.

Throughout my life I have needed the help of doctors and nurses.

There is no group of people that I admire, respect and appreciate more than doctors and nurses.

You may not be thanked often enough for all your good deeds, i.e., your service to your patients, but rest assured your patients all appreciate your service to them.

Just knowing that you are helping others, should be thanks enough (although a huge salary would be good too... and deserved).

Keep up your good work... best of luck and success to you Royal

Technically you don't have to do good things for others in order to have those health benefits, you just have to believe you are doing good things ;)

I believe in Karma. If I do good deeds, I become good deeds in return. The same I do bad deeds, become bad deeds. I don't believe that I motivated other people with my deeds.

It is interesting just now I got the opportunity to help someone in a matter of which I have dreamed.

Thank you for your comments and your kind words.

Here is a link to the newspaper article from which I got the information about the study:

I searched for the actual study, however, I wasn't able to find it.
