Chinese. Is there any languae that all people in China understand?

Chinese. Does anybody know what language do they speak in China? I heard that there are 13 dilects.

Everyone in China, to a greater or lesser extent, is able to speak and understand Mandarin, which is the most widely spoken dialect among the others. In Chinese it's called 普通话.
