I will assume that "meat" has the usual meaning: the flesh of a domestic animal, consumed as food, such as beef, pork, or chicken.

I will assume that "meat" here means "the practice of killing animals in order to produce meat."

The statement "Killing animals for their meat is murder" is false. This is not a matter of opinion. The meaning of the word "murder" is: (oxforddictionaries.com).

"The unlawful premeditated killing of one human being by another."

1) Domestic animals are not human beings. Therefore, killing domestic animals is not "murder."

2) Killing domestic animals for their meat is lawful provided many requirements are met. The meat I eat in a McDonald's hamburger has been produced lawfully.

So, producing a McDonald's hamburger does not involve killing a human being and does not involve anything unlawful. It is not "murder."

In the United States animals must be slaughtered "humanely," only some animals are to be slaughtered for meat, and many health and safety regulations must be met. For example, in California and several other states of the United States, it is illegal to slaughter horses for horsemeat. Killing an animal can be unlawful. But it is not "murder."

Let me be clear. I do eat meat myself. I also believe that mammals have consciousness and can experience pain and fear. I am open to the argument that slaughtering animals for meat, no matter how humanely, might be unethical or immoral... or disgusting... and that eating meat might be unhealthy. So: cruel, unethical, immoral, disgusting, unhealthy: possibly true.

I would even accept "killing animals for meat is like murder" as possibly true, or at least arguable.

"Killing animals for meat is murder," or "Meat is murder:" false.

Having lost my brother, I can't help but remember the morgue when I pass next to a butcher's. 

I'd love to live in a place with more vegetarians. It's hard to find good vegetarian food down here.

I always think of the word murder in reference to people. The word murder seems to include a moral and legal action which the word killing doesn’t necessarily include.
