Abstract of an essay Children’s Literature is by all means of great importance with the deep motive to enlighten and educate young readers. Looking back to the history of Chinese Children’s Literature, we would find out that since the the Qing dynasty, the development of domestic Children’s Literature is strongly associated to that of foregin Children’s Literature translation history. In recent years, Children’s Literature market has seen a significant global booming, and there has been an active introduction of foreign copyright in China. Compared to the heated publication of foreign Children’s Literature, however, the research to its literariness or translation theory is in the marginalized position, which has caused a serious imbalance between the development of theory and practice of Children’s Literature. The present project will take the classic italian Children’s Literature Il giornalino di Gian Burrasca as a case study, with the aim to verify how to applicate the Functional Equivalence theory into translation of Children’s Literature. The stucture of the thesis is as follows: the first chapter consists of a literature review about the current research on Children’s Literature translation theory in China and abroad, and a brief introduction to Eugene Nida’s functional equivalence theory. The second chapter is a partial translation of Il giornalino di Gian Burrasca. The third chapter begins working through a case study on the application of Nida’s theory into Children’s Literature translation in a comparative analysis. The conclusion part involves a understanding of the above analysis, in order to raise the interest of the translators in translating Children’s Literature, and to promote the development of Children’s Literature translation in China.
