first of all, your proposed number of Chinese chars are somehow right, but most of them is not used in everyday life. like the word Honorificabilitudinitatibus, seldom man has ever used it after Shakespeare. In fact, 2000 - 3000 words are quite enough for newspaper reading. Second place, grammer of Chinese language is so much easier than other Indo-European languages, like German or Russian. Third, we also have all kinds of chianese language test and certificate for locals. Just no one cares that expect teachers or secretaries. By the way, language skill is an necessary but not sufficient condition of literature. The later depends more on inspiration and story telling skill. At last, I like calligraphy too, besides, my Grandpa is an expert in this art. But it is a shame that my handwritting is really not worth telling. Most Chinese youngers nowadays have not trained specially in this art. But there are still talented ones as rare and precious successor. To tell you the truth, my handwritting is much more elegant in elementary school than now. I am not a mater student of maths and already get used to type with keyboard for long. The only thing I would write in everyday life is probably Greek Chars as equations ......

Ho sento che i caratteri sono troppi complessi. Perche' non semplificarli?

Ho sentito che ci sono piu' di diecimila caratteri in cinese, forse sembra di 80 mila. Come si puo' ricordare cosi' tanti caratteri?

8万？一般会两千个足矣！学母语一般都懒得研究语法！倒是英语语法让我蛋疼得很。汉语水平高低和文学的关系？我个人觉得：比如说有些学生汉语基础学得很好，考试可以得高分。但他不一定能写出好的文学作品。文学这东西多少和天赋挂钩！大学生应该都比小学生写字写得好！但不一定比初中生写的好！写字就像打架。大学生几乎都可以秒杀小学生，但初中生身体已经发育到一定程度了，有些太萎的大学生不一定打得过初中生。
