I wanted to write a TOEFL essay <s>responding to the</s> from a given <s>stated</s> topic. <s>Like before</s>, I had to put my <s>writing</s> essay in the correction <s>part</s> box since it is <s>a little bit</s> too long for the limits in the note entry section/box <s>and cannot be put here. </s>

Consider when you and your neighbors use shared stairs and live in one building together. It is very common to see your neighbors in stairs or even when you are in terrace and you can talk together. On the other hand, by living in a house with a big yard, you see your neighbors less which discourages relations between neighbors. For example, in the alley we live, there are some apartments and a few houses with big yards. Two of our neighbors who live in apartments of one building have close relations; they go to the market and also jog in the early mornings together. I think living in one building was very effective in forming friendship between them.</s>

The bigger the yard, the greater distance it is from your adjoining neighbours.  If you are a social person, having a bigger yard is not good because you will see less of your neighbours.  Of course I am assuming that you are getting along with them, otherwise a having bigger yard is the better solution.  I have great and friendly neighbours.  We can walk to the market together.  It is the close distance that cultivates good relations among neighbours since we have to live so close to each other.  I do not know about other countries but where we live, apartment living is wonderful.  I can know all my neighbours.  I can go jogging with them in the morning.  A very good way of fostering neighbourly relations.

Higher amount of cost including purchasing cost and maintenance costs, difficulty in keeping the yard neat and having no close neighbors are three important disadvantages of living in a house with big yard that should not be underestimated.</s>You are repeating again and no new information is given.  Very bad form.  Instead, why don't you write about the advantages of living in a house with a nice yard.  You can write much more about the joys of gardening etc.  It is always good to write about positive than negative things.  Here is how I would conclude your essay.

Although there are disadvantages in living such a large place, there are times, when living in such close quarters is not that great either.  What happens when I wanted some quietude instead?  When I wanted to be alone, far away from the maddening crowd.  Then most of the disadvantages will turn into advantanges.  I suppose whatever reason we give at the time depends on our mood.  As in life, we just have to manage and make the best out of the situations we are in.

1.  Adore seems more excessive than "love" in this sense and "love" is more than just "like".  This is my preference for using a general statement for other people.  If you had written, "I adore living in ...", I will not change it because this is your personal opinion and no one has the right to say otherwise.

2.  This is long winded because you have stated it earlier.  Repetition is only for emphasis and rhetoric purposes.

3.  Same reason as #2.  Hence need to write differently to express the same.

4.  You are repeating the same things again.  This shows that you have nothing to say and to keep the requirement of having so many words in the essay.  You can write some other things related to the problems.  You can give examples such as I did.  When you become long winded.  The examiner will know you are just writing to fulfill the requirements of the essay.  One advice is to write in your native language which you are more fluent in.  Then translate it.  Although, it may not be perfect, at least your ideas and content will help you more than being long winded.
