A little story about Palembang
Hello all, this is my third written entry. In this entry I will tell you about my city, Palembang. I got an idea to write about my city when I woke up this morning. I looked out of my window and suddenly got this idea ^^. Ok, let's start !
Palembang is the capital city of South Sumatera Province, Indonesia. I have been living here since I was born. Palembang city is separated into two areas by the Musi River (One area is called Ilir, the other area is called Ulu ; I live in Ilir area). Those two areas are linked by the Ampera Bridge, a landmark of our city.
There are a lot of tourism destinations in Palembang, like Kemaro (Kemarau) Island, Benteng Kuto Besak, Monpera, Siguntang Hill, etc. Kemaro Island is located on the Musi River. This island is named “Kemarau” because it is always dry. It never floods even when the Musi River overflows. There’s a legend about the appearancsof this island, a love story between Palembang princess and a trader from China.
Every year, the celebration of Cap Go Meh is held on Kemaro Island. At this time, many people will visit the island to pray at the temple and enjoy the celebration.
