Short answer: Yes!

Maybe you want to try this link: http://ordnet.dk/ddo/ordbog?query=hovedstad

"Søg" means search, when you search hovedstaden, you get the pronunciation ("Udtale"):

Udtale: [ˈhoːəðˌsdað]       ð is almost the same sound as in English "with" (it helps to put your tongue out of your mouth and try to lick your chin)

When you click the loudspeaker symbol next to [ˈhoːəðˌsdað], you hear a perfect pronunciation, human voice

If you leave out the first d completely, it will sound wrong, but you are right, it is quite subtle.

Dav Tomek! The two ds are soft, so they are pronounced the same way. Since the first d is followed by s, it probably disappears a little.. Listen (although it sounds like the initial H was chopped off): http://www.forvo.com/search/hovedstad/ It is exactly like "hoved", followed by "stad". Hoved: http://www.forvo.com/search/hoved/ Stad: http://www.forvo.com/search/stad/da/ Martin
