Kyoi Chae's Cantonese Lesson One: 20/2/2011
Basic Word:
Cantonese is different from Madarin, and many "trendy language" (潮語) are very funny!!
When writing in Chinese, the wording and sentense are more likely to Mardarin. But for Speaking, Cantonese can be very different.
Start from some simple wordings and sentences is better ! ^U^
Greeting:
(eng) --> (can) --> (sound)
Morning --> 早晨 --> Joe Sun
Good Evening --> 午安 --> Ng On
Good night --> 早抖 --> Joe Tau
How are you? --> 你好嗎? --> Ni Ho Ma?
I'm fine --> 幾好 --> Kia Ho
Not Bad --> 唔錯 --> Ng Cho
Where will you go? --> 去邊呀? --> Hui Bin Ar?
I go to have a meal --> 我去食o野 --> Ngoi Hui Sick Yae
Nothing --> 冇o野 --> Mo Yae
Good --> 好 --> Ho
Not Good -->唔好 --> Ng Ho
So far so good --> OK 啦 --> okay la
How about you? --> 咁你呢? --> Gum Ni lei?
see ya/see you later --> 再見 --> joi kin
thank you --> 唔該 --> ng koi
Tip 1: "o" make the word different meaning and different sound:
的 --> o的 (dick --> D)
既 --> o既 (kei --> ge)
野 --> o野 (Yae --> Yae)
黎 --> o黎 (Lai --> Lai)
西 --> 哂 (Sai --> Sai) meaning: West --> All
左 --> o左 (joy --> joy) meaning: Left --> already
Tips 2: weak and strong tone before the adjectives.
weak word: 少少 / 一DD / 一時時
Strong work: 勁 / 超 / 非常 / 真係

ahhh.. I worked in HK(hong kong island side-- near 金鐘 station) for 2 years, my co-workers would teach me cantonese, but I almost forgot them..^^
