Kubrick's early movies
I'm sure that everyone know Stanley Kubrick and his great movies but propably not everyone watched his early short documentaries made in 1951. I would like to recommend two of his early movies: "Day of the Fight" and "Flying Padre". First of them presents one day from life of boxer Walter Cartier. (By the way Kubrick before started his career as director worked as photographer for "Look" and published photo essay about Cartier in the January 1949 in this magazine.) The second one is absolutely amazing story about catholic priest who worked in several churches in New Mexico. Because of the distances between particular places in this region priest used airplane to visit his worshippers.
Its worth to watch not only because of interesting stories and historical values. It also could provoke questions about truth in documentary and help us to understand how approach to make documentary had changed from 1950s.
