The hammock is a utensil of native Indians origin from south America. It was called Hamaka and was made with liane.
It was important in south America society during colonization era. It was used to carry dead or ill people, and slaves carried your lords during travels. It used in hospitals and houses. Today is use to sleep or take a rest.
When Portuguese and Spanish arrived in Americas, they adapted them hammocks in balconies with cotton ropes alike it is today.
In Amazon Region is used at travels inside boats through the rives, people sleep together with animals and goods.
Always, when i visit my uncles and my grandmother in Brazilian Northeastern, I sleep on a hammock. Where I live is very rarely to find it.
