Prep to CAE Cambridge English Test, level C1
Thank you for helping me out.The assignment was: you class has listened to a radio discussion on how more young people can be encouraged to study science. You have made the notes below:
ways of encouraging young people to study science:
-advertising
-school programmes
-government grants
Write an essay discussing two of the points in your notes. You should explain which way would be more effective in encouraging young people to study science, providing reasons to support your opinion.
Nobody is born a scientist, or at least, very few lucky people. Each one of us has had to have had a great mentor, that is to say a great teacher who was able to light up our curiosity and wonder for science. Teachers have a key role in a kid's future. This goes for any subject, but especially for science which is not so straightforward to understand. A student, embarking on their journey through science, really needs someone to guide them and motivate them.
If schools were interested to implement and improve* science programmes with teachers able to share their passion and also make more use of laboratories instead of just providing students with theorical lessons, we would see an increase in the number of youngsters *choosing a scientific path for their future.
Another important aspect to consider are government grants for scientific careers and studies. More and more students, especially in Italy, disregard careers as scientific reaserchers because they see them as poorly paid* and very unstable. This is why government action is needed to make sure that a youngster who just graduated or is getting their scIence PhD can access a stable job with a respectable *wage.
Battery dies, stopped here.
I think that a combination of these two ways to encourage the studying of science would be the more effective, but the one fundamental condition should be the improvement of school science programmes, because to dedicate one's life to a certain career and achieve success first comes passion, and that can only be instigated by a great mentor.
*your version is probably better for an exam of this nature.
Very well written!

More and more students, especially in Italy, disregard careers as scientific reaserchers because they consider them as financially disadvantaged and to be a very unstable financial decision . This is why there is the need of government action to make sure that a young person who just graduated or is getting their phD in some scientific field can get access to a stable job with a respectable financial income.
