Thanks for taking the time to explain the characters. You taught me four new characters today, as 人 is seen quite often on my online course in Mandarin. The biggest problem is the pronunciation, since, for example, rén sounds like jeune (young) in French. Maybe you can help me on Skype with the pronunciations of  characters like  见, 想,etc.

This sounds like something Confucius might have said. The problem, as I see it, is that it takes a very long time to know yourself, much longer than it does to know others. . . and some of us are so resistant to knowing ourselves.
