In this context, it means she's popular with the young generation. You could say she's "reaching" the younger generation. I don't actually know that I've ever heard "hitting" used this way before -- I'd say the usage is kind of metaphorical, like "you really hit the mark" = you successfully got the desired result. In colloquial speech "hit" can sometimes mean something like reach, achieve, get, or have an impact on.
