Do you think classical music actually helps people study? Or is it some other factor?

Most of the time when I was studying, I was studying classical music. So, any music other than the specific music I was studying would have been incredibly distracting. In general, I think it really depends. As a musician, I tend to pay a lot of attention to music, so if music is playing it can be distracting. But If I can find the right music, it can help get me in a good frame of mind.

I love classical music. I don't believe it helps people study. It is possible that some people might find some kinds of classical music soothing. Even in a quiet place, the background noise is irregular, and some kinds of classical music might help concentration by adding a gentle, predictable rhythmic background. Classical music can be very attention-getting. I would NOT like to study to the music of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony, Khachaturian's "Sabre Dance," or Sibelius' "Finlandia."

I think it depends on the learner. Some like to learn without background noise, some are motivated to learn with rock, classical or perhaps folk music playing in the background. Music playing in the background disturbs my concentration.
