Can anyone help polish my writing? Huge thanks. The issue whether parents should allow their children to have fun in their leisure time has caused public debate. In my view, children should be allowed to enjoy freedom for sake of physical and mental well-being. One benefit of playing and relaxing is that it ensures children’s physical well-being. Firstly, children are at a stage where their body is being built, and thus physical activities are of vital importance. Deprived of the right to enjoying proper physical activities, they will probably miss out on the chance to growing up for good in terms of body-building. For instance, some children unfortunately stop growing tall at about 14 years old due to lack of exercises; and some other fall victim to obesity or other diseases. Another great benefit of playing and relaxing is that boosts children’s mental well-being. Without freedom to have fun in their leisure time, children will feel trapped in suffocating control and manipulation, and consequently suffer from stress, tension, or even depression. In this sense, being allowed to have fun is essential to the mental health of children. Apart from that, exposure to nature can help satisfy children’s curiosity by allowing them to embrace and explore Mother Nature. Children may even experience an epiphany being surrounded by nature. For example, Zhang Heng, the great Chinese astronomer was obsessed with observing stars as a kid; and Li Siguang, the great Chinese geologist, spent his childhood having fun with rocks. To conclude, children can enjoy great benefits of having fun in their free time, be it physical or mental. It would be ruthless to deprive them of such benefits.
