'Exotic mix' means that the writer's relatives come from lots of different backgrounds. For example, perhaps one grandparent is Irish, another is Malaysian, a third is Argentinian and the fourth is Russian. Each of these grandparents contributes their unique genetics and together they make up the writer's gene pool.
