What is a gerund??
A gerund is a noun formed by adding the suffix "-ing" to a verb.
Gerunds look like present participles (verb forms that also end in "-ing"), but their role in a sentence as nouns distinguishes them.
Subject: Swimming is good exercise.
Object: She enjoys reading.
Complement: His favourite activity is painting.
