What does "keep someone ticking" mean from the audio clip?

That is a metaphor meaning to keep someone living, biologically working. It comes from thinking about a old type of clock/watch that you need to keep winding up. They all made ticking sounds as the second hand moved. If you didn't keep them wound up (the spings inside that are the source of the force that makes all the gears in the maching keep turning/oscilating) the clock stops and does not make the ticking noise.
