Can you please explain the meaning of "status quo" and its usage in a simple way?

status quo = how things are right now

Status quo = "the way things normally are"
For example: The poorest people in society are usually not happy with the status quo.

"previous position" or "as it was"

Also apart from what others have said status quo can be used to say and mean that historical traditions and customs will not be changed things have remained the same for a long time and will continue to remain the same, history customs and traditions will continue. Like Karen mentioned for status quo's of the past no longer being the current status quo.

Status quo means how situations are at a specified point of time, but also includes history.
Slavery was the status quo in society for much of the world's history. Arguably, it still is.
