What does 'checkman' mean? And how do you understand this sentence?

As Rosco has said, it's definitely "checkmate". If you're having trouble hearing the difference, it would be an excellent idea for you to drop everything else and make listening / pronunciation (because the way you speak is the way you hear) your highest priority.

It should have said "In life, unlike chess, the game continues after checkmate". Checkmate meaning the end of the game.
