do you know the meaning of "stringent application standards"?
application has different meanings - what is the context here? visa application? the application of a law?...
stringent means strict -
standards is probably regulations...

Hi! "Stringent" and "standard" are exactly what you pointed out. The main problem is with the word "application", because it can refer to a number of things: a job interview, an entry process to a university program, a visa application etc. The key, like you said, would be more context. Do you happen to have the entire text or paragraph?
