what are the differences between continual and continuous?

Something that is continual occurs repeatedly, but usually with breaks in between (or starts and stops). Ex: The continual barking of the neighbor's dog led to a formal complaint. Something that is continuous keeps going without interruption. Ex: The pendulum of the clock swung continuously.
