“Get a lift” is if you’re the passenger. “Give a lift” is if you’re the driver.

It's an informal way to describe someone giving you a ride in their car. You usually use it when they take you somewhere you need to go, rather than when you just ride along to where they're going. But you could also use it if you're both going to the same place and they let you ride with them.
