some children spend hours every day on their smartphones. why is this case? do you think this is a positive or a negative development? In recent years, smartphones have become of great importance in terms of their impact on the young generation, especially in today’s technology-focused world. In this essay, I will explain why there is such a trend and argue why I think using smartphones on a frequent basis can lead to several negative implications rather than positive impacts. One of the main reasons why children are more exposed to smartphones frequently is that the interactions between people have been significantly reduced, leading to more technology-based appliance usage. For example, in order to buy something people tend to use online websites to purchase their needs rather than going out and shopping, or due to the vast number of online communication applications, people are more likely to use these apps in order to contact their friends and relatives rather than giving them a visit, which can contribute to less interaction and more isolation. Peer pressure can also be another cause of this trend as it is more difficult to get along with their friends when the major way of connection among them is by phone. Thus, in this case it is more probable for children to spend their free time on the Internet using their cell phones as these young creatures are very good learners and copy the elders. While phones and electronic devices can bring about multiple benefits, including more accessibility to information, simpler knowledge transferability and more time efficiency, I believe this can result in more problems and barriers for children’s development in the near future. For instance, using phones every day can affect children’s vision and eyesight in the long term.
