As Rohan said they can both refer to a place where someone is staying, however sometimes they have slight different uses. Residence is often used to describe a place where we leave long term or permanently. For example: During lockdown everyone was advised to stay at their place of residence. (Here I mean home) While, often accommodation can refer to a place we stay temporarily. For example: Accommodation in Paris can be pretty expensive (here I mean, hotels, hostels etc)

A residence is a place you would live in long-term, while an accommodation is a temporary place you would stay for a short-term perhaps for a vacation/trip.

Residence is where you actually live. You could say “my accommodation is in .....” but equally accommodation can relate generally to any place which is habitable for others

They’re both words used to refer to a place of living. For example, at university you could live in student accommodation or halls of residence... same thing!
