When people say 'period' just at the end of their sentence, what does it mean? "The clearest message that we get from this 75-year study is this: Good relationships keep us happier and healthier. Period."

Hello, here period is the punctuation mark. It is usually used at the end when the given sentence is neither a question or an exclamation. Hope this helps you. Cheers:)

Yes, it means "I meant what I said; no further discussion, conditions, etc. are allowed." FYI, in the U.K. they say FULL STOP instead of PERIOD.
