Both ok. The first one emphasises you had completed the homework and maybe that meant there was an influence on the class.
I had done my homework before the lesson started so I understood what the teacher was saying.

I did my homework before the lesson started is just a sequence of events. Maybe you did it while you were waiting for the lesson to start.
