Micheal
He also leaves behind an environment to which he has been bound by
instincts evolved over many generations and of which he may be scarcely aware.
In this sentence, what does "of which he may be scarcely aware" midify?
It could be modifying "an environment" but I believe it would make more sense if it modifies instincts.
What do you think?
Thank you.

It is a poorly constructed sentence. There are too many subordinate clauses. It should be broken into two or more sentences rather than wander aimlessly from one clause to another. I do not understand what it means to be "bound by instincts" to an environment. Also, instincts do not evolve over generations. They evolve over millennia.

I would agree, it would modify 'instincts.'
