I reckon, first of all, students should learn how to search and sort out the necessary information. Then they should develop critical thinking. After it, they need to get academic knowledge because we learn to get it in the end. And one more reason: it's hard to do something practical if a person doesn't know the theory. The theory usually means academic knowledge.
