please tell me, what's different between "want to do" and "want doing"?

I want to wash the car.
The car wants/needs washing.
That is the difference between the two.

want to do means you have a desire for, need
i want to eat.
i want to go home now.
want doing means require
youe shoes want cleaning.
you look dirty, you want taking a shower.
