What is the meaning of "to parrot back" what you have heard? thanks

To repeat exactly what is been said word by word or imitate exactly the action of another.
It means that the person is doing that mechanically without understanding and without using any intelligence.

To "parrot" something or someone is to imitate it, to repeat it as is. You can teach a parrot to say certain words and phrases, so this is where this term comes from.
Example
"He parroted his boss when he was asked what the policy was."
