The foreigners don't need that in fact ,unless they find it fancy to choose a Chinese name. The point is that the Chinese names are a bit difficult to pronounce and it has been always a problem for Western people to memorize their names when they happenend to mingle in business transactions or just for fun. The Chinese found the solution in adapting another Western name or a name in the language of the country they deal with or reside in. I have a Chinese friend who has her name in addition to 2 other names, a Western and an Arabic . I think that is very considerate and practical from the part of Chinese people. They want to save the time spent try to pronounce the name ,then forgetting it again and again and save the other the effort of having to do so . Thank you Chinese fellows :) As for foreigners they better keep their names, for it is not so difficult for Chinese to memorize them (specially the Englilsh one), or they would choose a name that is phonetically similar as in you case ;)

Yo he usado la aproximación fonética.

Actualmente yo uso 2-3 nombres... todavía no puedo decidir, jeje. Mi nombre en inglés es Christian o Chris, pues mis nombres chinos son 白擴天, o 白汔天 (mi apellido y Christian, fonética), y 克裡斯 (Chris, fonética) ¡No estoy seguro en cual me gusta!
