暂且 = for now / for the time being / temporarily
Sam, why don't you make up a couple of sentences using the word, then ask us if they're correct? You'll learn a lot faster that way.

It means from now and into the near future. It implies that after a time, the situation may change.
"For the time being, let us just stay friends." = Let us stay friends for right now - if enough time passes, we may become more than friends, but that is not certain.
"Let us just stay friends" - We will be just friends - do not expect that to change.

It's means that at the current time (now), the meaning of the following sentence would be best.
"For the time being, let us just stay friends." "For the time being, please take good care of him."
