What's the differences between Passato prossimo,  Imperfetto , Passato remoto ,Trapassato prossimo, and Trapassato remoto?

Non è semplice spiegare l'uso di tutti i tempi verbali del passato del modo indicativo. Se fossi in te, per iniziare,  mi concentrerei solo su passato remoto (che equivale al simple past dell'inglese) e al passato prossimo (grosso modo corrisponde al present perfect dell'inglese).
