How to use "put someone on the spot"? Can I say "Don't put me on the spot. I don't have extra momeny to lend you."?

"put someone on the spot" means to put someone under pressure or attention; in a pressed position. Example: My boss put me on the spot when he demanded the report immediately. The radio announcer put the caller on the spot when he asked the caller to sing.
