I saw this phrase in a book, saying that it is a Chinese proverb, but I don't know which Chinese proverb corresponds this sentence.

我想,正如汉语中的成语,应该有一定的使用环境,to guess is cheap, to guess wrong is expensive.单独拿出来,让中国人来猜测,会累死中国人的,就像你给孩子解释一个很复杂的问题,你要花费很多精力,再一个就是你要有一定的文化底蕴。有些简单的事情,往往是最难解释的。

Westerners often use this to add credibility to a saying. Someone might also attribute a saying to Confucius. After all, five-thousand years of history amounts to a lot of credibility.
