"I didn't know you called me, I put/got my phone on silent mode." Is it correct? or....
What would you say?

"I didn't know you called me, I HAD my phone on silent mode."
"Put" sounds as if you changed to silent mode after the call. It may work if you used past perfect: "had put".
"Got" is simply a bad idea. Several interpretations come to mind, so using "got" is simply confusing.
