Some people think that Oscar Wilde was a bit of a misogynist (someone who hates women). The fact that he had a number of homosexual relationships which made his wife Constance extremely unhappy (in the end they separated) and he mostly ignored his 2 children highlights the fact that he was definitely not a 'good' husband or 'father'. And many of the things he said about women are very critical and negative
For example. 'Love for women is intellectually sterile, for women are receptive only. They take everything and give nothing". He certainly seemed to look down on women even though some of his female characters are quite clever.
But as a writer he was brilliant!
