There both correct, the difference being one refers to a third person and the other is between 2 people having a conversation.

Both are correct but each one tells a different story about the activity of meeting (or of never meeting)... one is perfect and the other is simple. What are you going to do about that? You can go there on a horse or you can go there on a rocket, which one is for you to decide. Language is a tool, we use it to communicate and exchange ideas.
