"Photo" is short for "photograph".

They are the same thing, but the word "photo" is more informal.

photo = light
graph = picture
So photo would be the light without the picture.

BEC and Peachy are both correct... "photo and photograph" are both nouns, but the word "photograph" can also be a verb "to photograph" something or someone.
