举一反三 = to raise one and infer three / to deduce many things from one case (idiom)
融会贯通 = to master the subject via a comprehensive study of surrounding areas

举一反三 is actually a Confucian saying.
“When I teach you how to identify an object with four sides, I take one corner for an instance and you should analogize the other three.”
So, 举一反三 means to draw inferences about other cases from one instance, particularly when learning new things.
