I think too much technology can be isolating. Now in the stores, it is common for everyone to be on their cell phones, as if they are almost unaware of the people around them. Families may have more than one television, which encourages separation from each other. On the other hand, the technology of the internet has allowed us to communicate and become close with people all around the world.
On balance, I think it is mostly isolating-- because the social networking sites and internet has been so good at giving people what they *think* they want, there is less tendency to branch out.
