Solace and console mean pretty much the same thing. Solace can be used as a noun or verb, but you will very seldom hear it used as a verb. It is almost always used as a noun. Consolation is the noun form of console.

They can be used in the same way. If you give someone solace, you console them. Console (Kunsoul pr.) is used much more often than solace. A console can also be a stereo system or cabinet. However, it is pronounced con soul.
