What is the difference between "that is why" and "which is why"?

Use 'which' to start a relative clause in one sentence. Use 'that' to begin a new sentence.
"Accidents happen, which is why you should keep an emergency fund handy."
"Accidents happen. That is why you should keep an emergency fund handy.
