What's the meaning of "gridlock", apart from a traffic jam? Context: An accurate gridlock between the unit and the ship is maintained. Thanks.

Gridlock is most commonly used to refer to disagreements between political parties in Parliament or Congress. edit: in your example, gridlock means a situation in which nothing can move or proceed in any direction.
