Actually, both are fine. "I can also" is more common though.
I also can play piano. I can also play piano.

This is an example of a "squinting" modifier, which means its position can affect meaning. "I also can" means "I in addition to others", whereas "I can also" means "I can do something else". Several modifiers are of this ilk.
