How to use the word “为”? I have noticed that 为 has so many uses. ex. to smthg as; to act as; to become; to serve; to behave; to act; to be; to do; by (passive voice); for; to ***Please help me identify the use of 为 in these following sentences. Please feel free to add additional sentences. My understanding of the use is still limited and confused. 1。 我们一定要为您见义勇为的事迹报功。 We will definitely report your heroic deed to a higher authority. 2。身为家庭主妇,每天都要为一些家事操神。 A housewife has to worry about a lot of housework. 3。“天下为公”是为大道也。 "The whole world as one community" is a way of virtue and justice. 4。攥着刀把儿,你也不能为所欲为。 Even though you are in power, you can't just do whatever you want. 5。正所谓“人为刀俎,我为鱼肉”,现在只能任人摆布了。 Just as a Chinese saying goes, "being meat or fish on another's chopping board", I am now at others' mercy. 6. 当水平夹角为零时,垂直夹角也为零。 When the intersection angle at the horizontal level equals zero, the angle in the vertical direction is also zero. *** How do I know the difference between 为and other characters like 到/被/ etc。

what's your level of chinese?i ask you this questions because among these sentences you have given ,many of them are used in idioms or proverbs,especially the "为"in 1,3,4,5 ,you should first know well about the "为"in the sentences 2,身为家庭主妇,here,"身为"="作为“,means "as being a housewife"or act as a housewife",the kind of meaning we use it a lot,and the last sentence,here ,"为"means "是",this is a question of math ,in many math questions ,they prefer to use "为" to replace "是".maybe you can find some daily-used sentences of "为" first.^_^

here are the most using way of "为" first is "am,is,are"(verb be),for example: sentence 3,5 and 6 you wrote above second is "to become or to do sth"(now is a verb).example: sentence 4 third is "as,for"(now it is a prep).example:sentence 1 and 2 and there still many other meaning of "为" in classical Chinese..
